Since its inception in 1994, the Mt. Washington Valley Habitat for Humanity has strived to address the chronic affordable housing shortage in the communities of Northern Carroll County in New Hampshire and portions of Oxford County in Maine. Our first family moved in 1995. To date, Affiliate volunteers have refurbished four houses; completed 11 in the Morrell Drive complex off the Kancamagus Hwy.; one in Fryeburg; four in the four unit complex on North Road in Conway; one on Grison Road in Madison and most recently, 253 Silver Pine Ln, Solokis Pines, Tamworth, NH.See the Photographs section for examples of our homes.
The Affiliate has invested approximately $2.2 million in the construction of these houses (excluding volunteer labor) that have a market value in excess of $2.8 million. More important, 51 children have reaped the benefit of stable, safe and affordable living conditions. Except for a one day per week office worker, all of our personnel from Board of Directors, various committee members to construction helpers are all volunteers.
